There are moments in an organization’s life when you don’t just relaunch — you reignite.
We are proud to announce that Miss Amazing Virginia is reopening — with renewed vision, expanded impact, and a commitment to building something sustainable for years to come.
But this isn’t just about bringing back an event.
It’s about meeting a need that is urgent, growing, and too important to ignore.
The Need in Virginia
Miss Amazing exists to empower girls and women with disabilities by building confidence, leadership skills, and community connection.
The data tells us why this work is critical:
- 1 in 4 adults in the United States live with a disability (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 2023).
- In Virginia alone, over 1.7 million adults live with a disability (U.S. Census Bureau, American Community Survey).
- Women with disabilities experience significantly higher unemployment rates than women without disabilities (U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics).
- Individuals with disabilities are nearly twice as likely to experience social isolation (National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine, 2020).
- Girls with disabilities participate in extracurricular and leadership opportunities at lower rates than their peers (National Center for Education Statistics).

- U.S. Census Bureau, American Community Survey (ACS)
- U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) Disability Employment Statistics
- National Academies of Sciences, Social Isolation and Loneliness in Older Adults (2020)
- National Center for Education Statistics (NCES)
Behind every statistic is a young woman in Virginia who deserves:
- To see herself as a leader
- To be celebrated
- To belong
- To be visible
That is why we are reopening.
Why Now?
Virginia — and the surrounding DMV area — has a strong disability community, incredible families, and passionate advocates. What has been missing is a consistent, structured empowerment experience specifically designed for girls and women with disabilities that blends:
- Confidence-building
- Leadership development
- Community celebration
- National representation opportunities
While Miss Amazing has pageant-like similarities, it is not a traditional elimination-based competition. Every participant is celebrated.
At the state level:
- A Virginia representative is selected and crowned to represent the state at Nationals.
- All participants receive recognition and celebration.
At the national level:
- A National Queen is crowned to serve as a year-long ambassador.
This model allows us to celebrate everyone while still offering a structured leadership pathway.
And Virginia deserves to be part of it.
A Bigger Vision: The National 50-State Expansion Plan
Reopening Virginia is part of something much larger.
Miss Amazing is actively working toward a strategic goal: expanding into all 50 states.
The national expansion plan focuses on:
1️⃣ Phased Growth
States move through structured phases:
- Exploration & Interest
- Incubation & Leadership Identification
- Pilot Programming (Amplify-style events)
- Full State Event Launch
2️⃣ Leadership Infrastructure
Each state builds:
- A Director
- Assistant Director
- Volunteer & Community Leads
- Sponsorship & Partnership Strategy
3️⃣ Sustainable Funding Models
Expansion prioritizes:
- Local sponsorship development
- Community partnership cultivation
- Volunteer engagement pipelines
- Clear accountability metrics
Virginia’s reopening aligns directly with this national strategy. We are building a sustainable chapter that contributes to a coast-to-coast movement of confidence and leadership for girls and women with disabilities.
What Reopening Looks Like in Virginia
We are intentionally building this chapter with sustainability in mind.
Rather than rushing into a single event, we are:
- Rebuilding a Leadership Team
- Establishing community partnerships across Virginia and the DMV region
- Developing a phased timeline aligned with national expansion standards
- Creating financial sustainability benchmarks
- Building volunteer infrastructure
Our timeline is currently in development as we prioritize:
- Long-term leadership structure
- Volunteer capacity
- Financial sustainability
- Strategic growth benchmarks
We are committed to doing this right — not just fast.
We Are Actively Seeking Organizational Partners
Reopening Virginia cannot — and should not — happen in isolation.
We are actively seeking partnerships with:
- Disability service organizations
- Schools and special education programs
- Advocacy groups
- Community centers
- Women’s leadership organizations
- Corporate ERGs and DEI teams
- Faith-based organizations
- Healthcare and therapy providers
Partnership opportunities include:
- Co-hosting Amplify-style confidence events
- Cross-referral networks for families
- Volunteer collaboration
- Sponsorship alignment
- Shared advocacy initiatives
- Leadership workshop facilitation
If your organization serves girls and women with disabilities — or is committed to advancing inclusion — we want to build alongside you.
This is not about competition.
It is about collective impact.
What Happens at Nationals?
Each state selects a representative to attend the annual National Summit hosted by Miss Amazing.
At Nationals, participants experience:
- Leadership workshops
- Confidence-building programming
- National-level recognition
- Networking with peers from across the country
- Crowning of the National Queen
It is a powerful weekend of belonging, visibility, and growth.
And we want Virginia back on that stage.
